Step-by-step execution guide
Ceiling First Strategy
Always paint the ceiling first. Drips and splatter are inevitable; by starting high, you can paint over any ceiling splatter when you move to the walls.
Wall Calculation
Calculate the surface area of your walls and ceiling separately. A standard room needs 1-2 gallons for the ceiling and 2-3 for the walls.
Cutting and Rolling Walls
Cut in around the ceiling line and trim. Then roll the walls using a 3/8-inch nap roller for standard drywall textures.
Trim and Cleanup
Remove tape while the paint is still slightly damp to prevent peeling. Clean your brushes immediately with warm soap and water to keep them professional-grade.
Jobsite Safety
Always wear eye protection when cutting lumber or driving nails. One splinter can derail a weekend project. Trust the numbers, but prioritize your safety.
